The automated content ID aspect of Youtube works on looking at the full frame of video , so cropping/flipping/overlaying/etc. are means to avoid that.

Then again, I’ve noticed that a lot of the MLPFIM videos still on Youtube tend to be closely cropped. Not sure what’s up with that.

Derpy with the derped eyes appears when Twilight is taking a drink, a little later than this scene. Interestingly, in the linked video here in the comments, that particular scene is cropped. I haven’t checked on the DVD that I bought awhile back.

There’s only a few frames where Derpy is derped - and that’s about 15 seconds later, when Pinkie is chatting excited to Twi, while Twi is filling her cup with hot sauce. It is more an “overhead” shot, not this side view.
 
Or, there is no single frame where twilight shows surprise, and Derpy is derped.

Yeah, but what I ment was when she opens them, they look normal. I guess they were trying to get a shot of the frame of Twilight’s comical shocked expression basically rather then trying to hide Derpy.

No, her eyes were shut from the moment the lights turned on and were still closed for couple of seconds after. It wasn’t a blink or a couple of frames that this happened in.

Maybe that’s why they chose a frame for her eyes being closed for this book so newbie fans don’t get the idea they “censored” her. (Of course, looks like it didn’t work here, as some are still jumping to that conclusion. It’s a lose-lose situation.)
 
It’s funny how some fans aren’t aware, or forget her eyes weren’t always “derp’d” when the series first began.

I just watched it myself on a very old video I have saved on my harddrive. Her eyes are closed up until after this moment, and they are not derped.

You’re wrong. They were only derped during a brief moment when Pinkie Pie was talking, but not in this particular frame shown here. See for yourself if you don’t believe me.
 
As I stated fans forget Derpy didn’t have derp’d eyes except in that one brief moment, until “Feeling Pinkie-Keen” onward where they started making it a running-gag.

…I’m pretty sure they just used whichever frame had the peak of Twilight’s reaction, and Derpy happened to be in mid-blink at the time, just like the second Lyra on the far left.

I suppose someone could say that, if Hasbro required the change, it’s official enough to qualify as “censorship”. I don’t really think the terminology is important; this is clearly an edit.
 
So why did Hasbro edit a scene in which Derpy’s eyes were originally normal? Was Hasbro worried about accusations of “censoring” Derpy if the book was released showing her eyes being normal? I’m genuinely curious about this odd edit.
 
I’m also hoping that the fact that her eyes were normal in this scene will be enough to prevent a mass brony uprising; at least it’s quiet so far…
