Is cause of AJ cleavage?
I tought it was something about redundancy or cause he was thinking she was acting like that on purpose…
But if is like this Spike reaction would make much more sense in the opposite way.
So long as you read this in the correct order, the joke is more than obvious. What are you lot goin on about? Or are you all children that can’t see past a pair of boobs?
@Kanrabat
The last anime series I watched in the last couple of years is Jojo. Before that, I went a couple of years without watching any anime.
@F
No. But Kanrabat seemed to imply that you need to be not just asian but also live in china/korea/japan, or at least be heavily immersed in that culture to understand the jokes, and I claim it’s not required to enjoy it.
Granted, shep told me this wasn’t his greatest 4koma and should be read alongside the 4koma where Rainbow Dash gets glasses… but it’s not required.
But you ARE a fan of manga and anime (well, surely). That’s why you have no problems getting the classic manga/anime jokes. Meaning, the real joke. Not an aproximate one.
I am a very casual weeaboo (I was extreme hardcore fan 15 years ago, in my early 20’s). So, for this particular joke, I understood something else than what was intended. I understood that AJ was just being silly and Spike, despite being shown massive cleavage, just went “really?”. That was funny in itself.
The “cute” aspect of someone looking for his/her glasses on the ground is completely lost to me. For me, this is just a cliché silly trope.
So, explaining the REAL joke is a plus. Even when one’s personal interpretation is prefered. Unfortunately, this still follow the rule that explaining a joke suck out all the fun from it.
Sigh…
It’s not being “Asian Descent”. I meant being CHINESE, KOREAN, or JAPANESE. Meaning, you are FROM there and you LIVE there. You BREATHE the LOCAL culture.
If you are “Chinese” but you grew up in say, France, and you live in France, you are not Chinese. You are French. So, you may not understand Chinese jokes, but you will understand and tell FRENCH jokes.
The joke of this comic is rooted deeply in Asian pop culture, especially Japanese. So, for anyone who don’t LIVE in a Asian country or for someone who is not into anime/manga that much, the joke need some explaining.
@Background Pony
The problem is that AJ’s treating her hat like she lost her glasses like Rainbow did in the first comic. But there’s nothing cute about looking for a huge hat “like Rainbow Dash” and it just looks weird or stupid to onlookers.
@CloSeph
I think this is a play on a common anime trope.
Where a bespectacled character suddenly loosing her glasses would make her helpless, thus MOE/cute.
Applejack loosing her hat doesn’t made her helpless, thus the lack of MOE/cute.
The way Applejack is looking for her hat is not the typical way one would search for an object as large as a hat. This method while unorthodox for hat searching is more commonly employed by those who lose sight enhancing accessories. Rainbow Dash, who does not actually need to wear glasses, reacting to losing her glasses in the expected fashion of someone with low visual abilities comes off as cute. Applejack searching for her hat as though she dropped a much smaller item comes off as purposely trying to appear cute, thus eliciting spike’s response.
I got it fine, and I’m British so not Asian, no. I thought it was rather good too.
Impressive.

Hey, AJ’s boobs are so mesmerizing, it’s hard to concentrate on anything else.
That did however not prevent me from joking about Spike disliking cleavages.

…do you imply that Asians can’t be Jewish?

I have no problems getting the jokes on these 4komas and I’m jewish…
Sigh…

Capiche?
It has nothing to do with being of asian descent. CloSeph explained the joke properly.
Because most people on Derpibooru are not Chinese/Korean/Japanese?
i think she just spaghetti’d you know, ppl seem to not pin her as the cute one.
Less complicated version of what I said

>qt dragon boi bump into you
>panic and gotta think fast
>give nice boob shot
>says ‘give me a break’
