I’d assume they were able to afford him the same way they afforded all the other A-list talent for the games: Disney footed the VA bills.
 
Also, it’s precisely because the storyline for the KH series can get so damn incomprehensible at times that I love every second of it. (That, and the voice acting is spectacular, even more so in English than in Japanese, but both language tracks are still damn good.)

While I played KH 1 and 2,I didn’t care so much about the side games(Except Birth by sleep,not ddd ,though that has to do more with the fact that I recently got a 3ds and waiting to buy the new pokemon game),maybe a wiki search at best to not miss anything.
 
You know,at least with the Mario franchise(RPGs aside) they don’t praise the plot,they know it’s weak and they don’t care,they’re too busy having fun…mostly like the (hopefully) silent,sane majority of the KH fandom…under the pile of the Yaoi fan-girl-dom

Though to tell the truth,while the gameplay is very fun,Visuals are very good,music is fucking AWESOME and has SOME impressive character designs…but I fucking hate it’s plot,it’s stupid,it’s more like a bad fanfic.  
Disney and SE characters are OOC most of the time,the way they connect the worlds is downright idiotic and the wasted GOOD plots/ideas could only be compared to the digits of pi.  
And don’t get me started on the “Heart” plot device…

No no no. You can legitimately like a villain. I liked non-DMC Vergil. I love Crocodile. I fucking adore Dio Brando. But Xehanort was fuckin’ garbage. I’d put him right up there with Sasuke and Aizen.
