This is intended as light hearted. I think Dubstep is alright, but it’s not Hardstyle.

Daft Punk is indeed French House, not only because they’re french, but also because that genre was created by the first wave of popular house artists from france, which had an interest for Disco. Alongside Daft Punk there’s also Stardust and Modjo and I think David Guetta used to do proper French House before going commercial (youtube “World is Mine”, I still remember singing that in school when it came out).

Puh-lease Vinyl, you’ve been in the industry long enough to know hardstyle is just wimpified gabber kicks set to generic trance anthems. Not saying dubstep is any better though.

In all seriousness though, I don’t dislike either but neither of these strike me as very “Vinyl” she seems to have this very Jungle/DnB style to her (makes sense since DnB DJs are usually who we think of when we hear the word DJ, thank the 90s for that.) or at the very least a more house-y style.

Must… not… punch in face…

Sorry, reflex. There’s more to today’s music than just club sludge and Top 40, you know.

And if Vinyl really feels this way, why is she a DJ? As much as I like the art style, she seems out of character in this pic.

Also, I’m not an audiophile and I don’t much care about the hardware that music is played through, but I thought I heard that cassette tapes were the worst possible way to store music, so what’s Vinyl doing with one?

I hate to be that guy but

Electronica isn’t real. It’s not a genre or a type of music, it’s a buzzword the dumbasses in media coined when they were too lazy to figure out what the actual genres were called.

Would be better to say that if she’s representing all the djs, and to see people think that a dj only knows how to play one genre it’s just irritating, especially considering I counted all the subgenres I play and I got over 70 of them and counting all divided into the major genres of House, Trance (Some people put Hardstyle in this category), Techno (actual techno, not what the music illiterates say), Breakbeat, Jungle (DnB included), Hardcore and as crazy as it sounds, Downtempo.

So as you can see, I as a dj refuse to stick to one genre, mostly because I have some kind of ADD and I can’t stick to one genre for too long, but also because I’m always exploring the world of electronic music and finding new stuff. I just wish other djs today would look at other genres with an open mind. Only now I got my cousin to like hardcore, and that was only after he listened to Scooter’s early stuff (he loves the recent stuff already) and finally he doesn’t nag me to play SHM again.
