Well, the text of the announcement says that they’re smaller.
The line is titled Mystery Mini and that seems to imply smaller size, but the sculpts look identical to the standard Funko Vinyl ones. I doubt they’d make new molds and start them off with off-color special edition figures. They’d have to do them in normal colors first, that’s why I think it’s the big ones. Those already have normal color releases.
Do you know that these are much smaller than the regular figures? I can’t tell from your comment.
And what the hell, the first time they show actually painted Vinyl and Tavi is these variants that nobody wants. Give us the regular release first.

In my pony collection I mainly focus on stuff with Vinyl Scratch (As well with other stuff of course)
Probably the same reason they made black GI Joes.
Does that actually make a difference? Unless black dye is actually cheaper than other types, the color of plastic shouldn’t affect price hardly at all.
Because money. In all honesty, I’m kinda surprised that it took Hasbro this long to start in on the black repaints.
Okay, Takara is worse about them, but Hasbro has made plenty themselves.
Using a single color for all figurines saves a lot of mney with those guys at China.
