You are welcome, and I thank you too. I love discussing about FoE.
You do care for FoE, if not you wouldn’t have asked so many questions. But I get your point, grimdark and horror in MLP turns many people off.
It was nice chatting with you too. Cya.
Okay, I don’t think I can harp on anything. You seem to know your FO:E stuff and have done a good job explaining things to me. To which I thank you.
It’s just that I personally don’t care for FOE. Not a fan of post-apocolyptic worlds you see and grimdark. I apologize but everyone likes different things.
But it was nice chatting with you.
She was overcome with guilt because she believed the massacre of the school to be her fault, as she chose the location at a whim due to its name.
Also, she didn’t abandon Equestria. It was not as if she was leaving Equestria to a random pony, Luna was almost her equal in power and definitely her equal in status as Princess of the Night. Celestia believed Luna had every rights to rule just as she had.
Celestia still taught lessons in Canterlot, and participated in the final fight before everything went to hell.
Still, that isn’t something to just ‘step down’ from. She had to best Discord, banish her own sister, and a single massacre makes her give up the crown? A ruler doesn’t just give up after a tragedy. They persevere. I mean, Roosevelt didn’t ‘abandon’ the US after Pearl Harbor.
She should have stuck to it and sought an end. Stepping down in such times makes her just petty and stupid. She still had her subjects to care for and she let them down.
FoE did not touch on other nations/countries. But Equestria itself was reduced to a forsaken and plagued wasteland, so there’s little surprise why other countries wouldn’t even want to intervene. Griffins and dragons were the only “outsiders” willing to enter.
There was little mention about the zebra’s personal feelings of Celestia, but she never was the type to go around announcing to other lands, “I am the one who raises your sun! Praise me!” So the zebras were probably unaware of her importance.
As for placement of the school, there were several equally good spots. Celestia simply wasn’t aware of the zebras’ bad blood with Nightmare Moon. She placed the school there because it was aptly named “Moon Valley” (or something). After the school’s population was wiped out by the poison, Celestia was so overcame with grief and regret that she stepped down, believing herself unworthy to lead. Thus Luna stepped up as the princess of Equestria, much to the zebras’ horror.
BUt what about the rest of the world? Didn’t any other nation try and help out the destroyed Equestria, or did they just turn up their noses and ignore the damaged country?
And yeah, it seems to be just a misunderstanding after misunderstanding……But then why did Celestia put a school for Luna right on the border if she knew the zebras didn’t like her?…And surely the zebras must have liked Celestia. She beat Nightmare Moon and raises the sun. I still don’t get why they tried to kill her.
The zebras truly and absolutely believed it was the right thing to do. It was not so much of, “If I can’t win, I’ll destroy everything!” but more of “If we lose, Nightmare Moon will bring about eternal night! Better we die together, than to allow that evil to prevail!”
As mentioned, it’s a tragic misunderstanding, and yet it’s justified for several reasons.
The ponies themselves weren’t actually 100% certain Luna wasn’t going to turn into NMM at some point. Even 200 years later, they were still arguing against one another if Luna and NMM were the same.
Also, Luna didn’t distant herself from the Nightmare Moon persona, as can be seem from the Nightmare Night celebration. It isn’t hard to see why some ponies/zebras would have still be confused over her identity.
Lastly, some ponies themselves naively chose to fuel the misunderstanding. The Wonderbolts renamed themselves as Nightmare Moon’s Shadowbolts (“If those zebra bastards fear Nightmare Moon, then WE WILL GIVE THEM NIGHTMARE MOON!”) in order to strike fear into their zebra enemies. Fear is an effective tactic in war, sadly it was this fear itself that brought about the conflict in the first place.
So the zebras enacted the most cowardest (and chldish) action of all time.
‘If I can’t win, I’ll destroy everything’. Idiots.
Zebras had great physical prowess akin to Earth ponies, and they were especially skillful in arts of spying, sabotage and melee combat.
While the Zebras lacked the raw magical power of Unicorns, they had their own minor branch of magic (as seen from Zecora teaching Twilight Sparkle in S3) and their talent in alchemy and poison more than made up.
Lastly, the zebras were able to convince dragons to aid them, and this took away the pegasi advantage as well.
It is notable however that the ponies definitely had the advantage in the war, even without the princesses stepping in directly. Unfortunately Fluttershy, in a tragically bad case of judgement, chose to share the ponies’ most potent magical healing spells with the zebras in order to reduce the bloodshed (as she couldn’t bear to see even the enemies of Equestria dying). As expected from war however, the zebras took her healing magic and tech, and instead reverse-engineered it to form devastating megaspells.
The ponies would still have won nonetheless, and realizing so (it was implied the ponies were literally a day or two away from victory), the zebras opted for a double suicide (to prevent the fearsome NMM from destroying everything). They unleashed all of the megaspells at once, devastating Equestria into a forsaken wasteland.
Regrettably, Celestia was not in a position where she could help reform Equestria. And Luna sacrificed herself in Canterlot to give the ponies a chance to escape.
‘unfamiliar with the new technologies used by ponies’ So how were the zebras able to be a substantial threat to Equestria if they were unfamiliar with Equestrian tech. (I assume that the zebras were behind their Equestrian counterparts in the tech department.)
And ponies have magic…Zebras don’t…Again, why were the zebras a major threat?
And from what it seems, during the war, the ponies just kind of forgot about ‘friendship’ and the like. It pretty much puts me off. (And seriously, Celestia stepping down at a time like this, is stupid. It’s like if she just let the ponies handle Nightmare Moon….Did she survive the war even? I know Luna died somehow, but I think Celestia is a lot tougher then that. Why didn’t she help bring her nation back together?)
Fallout Equestria just has a lot of things that don’t add up for me and I don’t very much like the setting. {I don’t care much for grimdark.}
The war of FoE occurs around 40-50 years after the current MLP. By then, technologies such as those belonging to the Flim Flam brother are much more common and advanced.
Applebloom happens to have a talent in bringing technology into everyday life, and she helped install automated systems into Luna’s school.
The thing is, zebra refugees wasn’t something that anypony could foresee at that time, and the zebras were unfamiliar with the new technologies used by ponies.
While guard ponies would be a good idea, at that point in time the ponies simply didn’t realize the potential for such a disaster. Their technology did serve them very well up till that point. Also, it wasn’t like there were clear cut borders in that situation.
Defensive techonologies? Oh yeah, this is an alternate Equestria….Why not just have guards on the borders? Every country does that. It makes the most sense.
What happened was a tragic misunderstanding. It was not all-out war yet, but rather a series of skirmishes by both sides.
As mentioned, Luna’s school was near zebra territory. A group of zebra caravans approached the school to seek asylum from the nearby conflict, but the zebras were unaware that Luna’s school had defensive technologies to discourage zebra attackers.
Meanwhile, the ponies in Luna’s school were unaware the zebra caravans consisted of unarmed families and foals. When the desperate zebras tried to force their way in, they were fired upon by the school’s automated system and killed.
A zebra colt whose family was killed before his eyes sought revenge. He snuck into Luna’s school and unleashed a poison, slaying the unprepared teachers and students.
The unprovoked slaughter of Luna’s school and zebra refugees caused mass grieving and outrage on both sides, plunging them into war.
The zebras butchered students?!! What?!! (And yeah, Celestia would be devastated, but hey. She watched her sister get corrupted by demons, I think she can take things like that.)
Seriously, this sounds like something that would happen in the middle ages.
She _accidentally started the war in the first place by placing Luna’s own school right in front of Zebra territory, and they butchered the students there for a variety of awful reasons. Celestia, devastated, pretty much just completely gave up her power. She didn’t take it well.
But the more I think about it, the more I understand how retarded FOE’s backstory is.
Okay. Why did Celestia hand over the government over to Luna? I mean, she must have known about the zebras. Surely she could have talked this thing out somehow.
No. Over 1000 years ago, the zebras suffered and languished when Luna turned into Nightmare Moon and brought about eternal night. The memories of Luna and NMM were forever etched into their minds as a religion and culture. Hence, most zebras grew up hating and fearing Luna.
The zebras were horrified when they learnt that Luna was reinstated as a princess, believing she would relapse into NMM and bring about doom. Unfortunately, the ponies lack of understanding for the zebras’ concerns, and the zebras’ lack of tolerance for Luna escalated the conflict into all-out war.
When Celestia passed the leadership of Equestria to Luna, the zebras all but went berserk, assuming Luna/NMM was in control over all of ponykind and would wipe them out (as she attempted to 1000 years ago). Thus they opted for a double suicide, plunging Equestria into the forsaken wastelands of FoE.
So, the zebras were the bad guys?
Actually zebras are going to war with ponies over a religious conflict and to fight for resources.
Both, Annabelle and Double Tap are from the “Anywhere butt here” spinoff and the story is mostly inspired by the Fallout Equestria fanfic.
