Where the cutie mark is. Not the rear end!
Yeah, the show’s using it right, but some folks out there, you know the ones… they use the word ‘flank’ for the direct ass end of a pony.
Although most of them don’t know any better, many are lazy.
Yes! Not the ass! The sides!
Okay upper thigh/side of cheek, jeez details xD
Well it’s would make sense to consider it outer thigh since that’s where their cutie marks are. If I’m literally referring to their buttocks I’ll say ass, butt, plot etc. (meaning the portion you sit on)
So I see it as if someone said “dat flank” they’re not saying “dat ass” but rather “dem thighs”.
That’s what I’m saying, a cutie mark is on your rear side!
Oh, you meant outer thigh? That’s close enough I guess. I thought we were talking about using it for the middle of the butt.
This. If anything, this is going to raise an entire generation that calls the outer thigh of a horse the flank.
Blame hasbro, they said “blank flank” first, now it’s associated with outer thigh.
Plot is fine since it’s a non-anatomical term that gained its current usage because of the “watch it for the plot” joke.
Flank is just taking an actual word for an area on the body and then using it for the wrong part.
Well equestrian ponies aren’t irl horses…problem solved?
There was another diagram where the flank was more on the side than the butt, so I dunno.
You didn’t have to.
In fact, it was pretty useless and redundant.

By this we’re using flank just fine.
Oh I hate when people use literally wrong!! That’s kind of because it’s somewhat ironic the way people use it. I don’t think the word “plot” or “flank” as used by bronies will ever be added to the dictionary as it’s used in a small sub culture. As long as you can distinguish the actual definition from how you use it around bronies then it really doesn’t cause harm or even confusion.
I kind of like using flank for butt anyway.
Now I feel disgusted that I had to use an image with fluttershy
It’s become one of those things where if you use the colloquial definition for a term long enough, it becomes one of the standard definitions. For example, they adapted the standard definition of the word ‘literally’ to include one of the colloquial definitions. I forget which one. But it’s out there if you want to look it up.
