Yeah, the show’s using it right, but some folks out there, you know the ones… they use the word ‘flank’ for the direct ass end of a pony.

Although most of them don’t know any better, many are lazy.

I imagine the flank as being the equivelent of the side of the butt cheek. Not quite the thigh, but a cutie mark on a human would be mostly on the side hip and slightly on the butt cheek itself.

Well it’s would make sense to consider it outer thigh since that’s where their cutie marks are. If I’m literally referring to their buttocks I’ll say ass, butt, plot etc. (meaning the portion you sit on)

So I see it as if someone said “dat flank” they’re not saying “dat ass” but rather “dem thighs”.

Plot is fine since it’s a non-anatomical term that gained its current usage because of the “watch it for the plot” joke.

Flank is just taking an actual word for an area on the body and then using it for the wrong part.

Oh I hate when people use literally wrong!! That’s kind of because it’s somewhat ironic the way people use it. I don’t think the word “plot” or “flank” as used by bronies will ever be added to the dictionary as it’s used in a small sub culture. As long as you can distinguish the actual definition from how you use it around bronies then it really doesn’t cause harm or even confusion.

I kind of like using flank for butt anyway.

It’s become one of those things where if you use the colloquial definition for a term long enough, it becomes one of the standard definitions. For example, they adapted the standard definition of the word ‘literally’ to include one of the colloquial definitions. I forget which one. But it’s out there if you want to look it up.
