Depends on how large an army. Miniguns have limited amount of ammo and limited number of barrels (constant firing can overheat the barrels and potentially cause the gun to jam or even melt if you’re unlucky) and plot armor can run out if you forget to call the cavalry or the Powers That Be decide that your plot armor stops working, though generally when that happens you get to go out epic-ly (Unless the PTB hate you)

Unless you have a minigun or plot armor. Or both.
A few redshirts would be fine. But an army could be dangerous through shear numbers. Sure they die in droves, but when there are three reserves for ever one you kill, the risk of getting overwhelmed when fighting solo gets rather high.
