But that’s not to say AppleDash is the ‘one true pairing’. There are a lot of pairings that have some basis. Most come from RD cause she has a dynamic relationship with all her friends.
Twidash- The two main characters of MLP who are opposite sides of the spectrum. Brains and Brawn. Organization vs Natural Leadership. Logic vs Practical Common Sense, the list goes on.
…but Twilight respects RD more then RD is aware. She considers RD braver then herself and is infinitely grateful to her giving her her cutie mark. They are more like partners in a crime or drama show, which is often a basis for a relationship.
Flutterdash - RD is the tough girl that protects the shy girl in high school and tries to make her tougher. However, since they are adults, their is a little more tension in this relationship, and RD is more alpha then most tough high school tomboys.
RainbowPie - This one is mostly for love=fun chemistry. If they had a relationship it would be completely based on attraction and personas having fun. Pinkie Pie is ‘enamored’ by Rainbow Dash to the extreme, but unless she was given a push, like most things about Pinkie Pie, its extremely innocent.
Raridash - A combination of caliginous emotions of being complete opposites, along Rarity’s gratitude for being saved and admiration in Rainbow Dash in general. Most of this is from Rarity’s side

But your summation of Rainbow Dash and AJ’s chemistry is “So two tomboys are a lesbian couple? How stupid.” There’s much more about their chemistry then being tomboys. And there is a lot more to THEM then being tomboys. Plus you ignored a lot of my other points that build on my statement. You can’t pluck the roots of an argument just by cutting off the top.
You have to admit that’s an enormous amount of generalizing. And since they are not siblings, there is something else behind ALL the things I listed that isn’t covered by ‘they’re just good friends’. Something like ‘no time! They knew what they were getting into!’ when she had to leave Pinkie and Rarity behind. That’s like stating ‘You know how far I’ll go to get her back!”…to OTHER good friends.
She used to help AJ buck apples before both training to be a wonderbolt and her job got in the way. She shows interest in AJ’s interests, like Rodio Stars like Wild Bill and Calamity Mane. She threatened to kill two ponies for trying to take away AJ’s farm.
RD does not open her heart up to people easily AT ALL. Her bravado is her mask, and she has a lot of issues underneath that.
But don’t get me wrong, that is not to say that either of them are consciously aware of it. Its unlikely either of them are seriously aware of it unless someone actually said it outloud that they have feelings toward each other equal to that of a significant other. There is a possibility RD is aware of non-platonic feelings but AJ isn’t, given RD’s street smarts and more aware attitude, but we aren’t sure yet. AJ definitely considers RD her closest friend, someone she both reigns in and in turn never wants to disappoint, and someone she’d hang with forever. That’s their dynamic.
Two years ago, I couldn’t imagine life without my younger brothers. Using an emotion like that is a poor basis for a ship.
Your under the huge assumption that RD has any distinction between guy and girl to begin with….which there is opposite evidence of.
That’s not to say she’s gender blind like Pinkie Pie, but that her identity and her preference is complete free of difference in sexual identity. See how she has associated with boys and girls since she was a kid and onto adulthood? ‘Defending fluttershy’s honor?’
I am both of the headcanon that RD’s mom is Celestia due to all the hints in the show,…
…and I am a fan of AppleDash because of all the hints in the show. Rainbow Dash has a unique dynamic between each of her friends, and Applejack is the person she is attached to the most.
Fall Weather Friends isn’t my only basis for AppleDash, (even though it was shown to be AJ’s most treasured memory), or the psuedo-kiss she gave AJ in Mare=Do-Well…it was the fact RD couldn’t imagine a life without AJ in The Last Roundup. If you were that close to losing the person you care about most…that look on RD’s face when she cried is what would appear.
I think it’s all part of her glaringly obvious anxiety issues; She doesn’t know how to talk to a guy she likes, and so she just avoids it.
Oh in terms of relationship I’m definitely in the Rarijack corner. I always think RD is the kind of athlete who would be strictly celibate for fear of losing her edge.
That’s the thing. I don’t go for ships because I think they’re sexy, I go for ones that make sense, and Appledash doesn’t make sense. Those two may respect each other, but it looks more like the respect between siblings or rivals.
Exactly, two ultra athletic ultra competitive tom boys with grudging respect and awe of each others power. Imagine the two greatest athletes hooking up. All that competitiveness and athleticism funnelling into the sideways shuffle. Each pushing the other to go rougher and faster.
Remember when Superman and Wonderwoman had sex and basically destroyed Japan with a tidal wave from pelvic thrusting?
That’s sex with a blast radius and containment zone. After four days alls that’s left of Ponyville is loosely flapping police tape, hundreds of drained batteries and enough juice to fill a swimming pool.

It’s a shame that one got cancelled. It was so good.
Either way, Appledash is an incredibly stupid ship.
That’s what I’m saying. The freak changeling was interesting: She could shapeshift, but not do the colors, so she was always black with blue eyes no matter her form. The others kick her out, and she ends up with the ponies, and they’re busy trying to decide what the hell to do with her while she’s busy trying to figure out emotions (In the fic, changelings are capable of emotion, they just aren’t raised in an environment that nurtures emotion).
But half of each chapter was Applejack and Dash going at it like woodchucks, and I was skipping entire paragraphs because I wanted to read about the freak changeling, and I just gave up at about Chapter 6.
I haven’t read that one.
Still, in my opinion, if it isn’t important to the story, don’t go on too much about it. Hell, I’m writing a Macindash fic that opens with Twilight coming out about her Xenophilia, but the Xenophilia isn’t the focus, it’s just the set up for the punchline.
No. It had an OC that was a freak changeling that was on the pony’s side. I didn’t get too far into it.
Was it the sequel to the one where Applejack turned out to be a changeling?
I know, but ones like that are hard to find. I’m not down on shipping, I’m just not into the whole romance side of things. A lot of fics seem to just muscle a random shipping in for no good reason, and it just detracts from the work as a whole. I tried to read one once, and they had this whole AppleDash thing that came out of nowhere and took up about half of each chapter. The plot was about a changeling invasion.
A good fic doesn’t have tacked on shipping. The shipping blends with the fic.

There’s a few. One of the best, and basically the one credited with starting that one fad, has kinda been cancelled. A lot of them, however, are kinda weak.
