I don’t doubt the VF-0 would’ve been the most correct choice. I just argue that the artist simply opted to use the most well-known mech, rather than the most correct one.
I mean, I never watched Macross Zero. I do, however, recognise Skull Leader’s colours. That recognition should be enough, I think. I mean, if you wanted to represent, say the Transformers, you’d opt for Optimus Prime. For G.I.Joe, Snake Eyes. For Gundam, either the original Gundam or a Zaku.
Except that scene wasn’t from the TV Show it was from Macross Zero which was a prequel to the TV Show. That took place during the Unification Wars.
So yeah a VF-0 Phoenix would have, been the obviously correct choice here.
That’s Skull Leader’s Valkyrie/Veritech. Easily the most iconic mech of the series. Makes sense to use it.
I only ever watched the american version, so sue me.
