No, silhouette style was very popular in the 18th Century. Wikipedia has some good examples.
 
It’s not a reference either way, just a coincidence of similar art styles used in different contexts and media. FiM uses it very creatively here, though, not as shadows but as an appealing palette of color roughly following the FiM logo color scheme–a testament to how AFiD and its opening song captured the show’s spirit. </gushing-about-best-episode>

NNnnn the silhouettey minimalist style was not invented by Rayman Origins. I don’t think there’s any reference here, and they’re not even that similar looking.

Yeah, kinda. The backgrounds of the loading screens have a simplified silhouette of the background for the world. Also, some levels do have a silhouette style to them.

That’s how Pinkie Pie is good at what she does. She practices during the loading screen. Also, I haven’t played it yet, but I think the most recent DKC game has levels with a similar silhouette style, too.
