Disappointing, but not surprising.
The fandom isn’t a hive mind. You’re going to have some people that always really upset at something, or some folks will make fun of those that really upset. Those that are upset will probably make a disproportionately large amount of noise.
That said, I don’t take this seriously at all.
Those that have something positive to say probably just avoid drama bait entirely.
I don’t think it’s fair to label an entire fandom by the actions of a few.
That’s kind of the point. It’s silly hyperbole parodying Libertarians predicting the imminent collapse of society.

I don’t really care about Gravity Falls, Sonic, or any other fandom I’m not in.

Yes they do, along with complaining that green eyes make sonic soulless and that anything past sonic adventures 2 is sacrilege.
Implying that the MLP fandom isn’t the one everyone points at and says “at least we’re not like them” completely unironically.
It was fun to see the Gravity Falls fandom go from a group of people so full of hope and “learning from past mistakes” to a mess similar to ours in nearly every way. And hey, it only took them two months!
Oh, do they randomly bring up other fandoms while professing how much they hate themselves too?
Nearly as bad? Man, you haven’t seen anything. We’re on par with the Game Grumps fandom in terms of sheer awfulness.

Seriously, sometimes I think this fandom is nearly as bad as the Sonic fandom.
