This did sort of need to be done. Despite Twilight being my favourite pony ive always despised the hero/princess side of her equation and Trixie has always done the best job of underlining just how truly fucked up it is to have a borderline mary sue princess born into her job whom basically gets worshipped for being the authors favourite. Because Trixie (and any pony really) would have to be pretty destroyed in self-esteem before she began respecting or taking the advice of a pony so universally loved without merit.  
And yes. Again, Twilight is my favourite. I criticise my favourite things extra hard. It makes it admittedly difficult to enjoy things >>

I think people obsess over her because they feel sorry for her over any other pony.
 
Speaking as someone who really doesnt consider themselves a Trixie fan even ill admit that even her totally in canon deal just seems all shit all the time.
 
But then thats always been the problem of FiM. For all its good points, the morality side of it has always been 100% nightmare fuel.
