Description
Hasbro has put the old corporate kibosh on 3D printing sites selling My Little Pony stuff.

And? I’m the consumer; I’m allowed to be picky. The Funko figs certainly aren’t bad, but they’re not quite good enough to make me want to get out my wallet.
*Hashbro’s
dangit, I could’ve sworn I made sure to put that second ‘h’ in there…
The Funko figures are pretty good, and reasonably priced too. But they’ll never have a pose as appealing as Hasbro’s Derpy pose.
(And yes, I do have one of the Funko Derpy figures, as well as Fluttershy.)
>picky
>oh so picky
Sigh
cuz hasbro is teh devil
but really, buy the goddamned funko figures, they were MADE for you and shut up.
Why does it seem like so many of the fanboys barking over this have never seen the bloody Funko figures? The grand total of deviation from show accuracy in those figures amounts to “got Rainbow Dash’s crest colors wrong”, which is hardly a deal-killer given that so far only the 2012 McDappyMeal toys have gotten them right.
I wasn’t aware that Hasbro was officially producing those exact 3d printed models for Hasbrony to steal.
It’s just that the fans had been increasingly pushing their luck with the IP, going a little bit beyond the fair use territory. I have to say, this fandom is probably one the most DARING out of many fandoms I’ve come across.
Exactly. All of the C&Ds so far have hit products that A: Could be easily mass-produced/distributed; and B: Were so close in image/form/content to actual licensed products that they might legitimately be mistaken for licensed products. However popular these things might be with fans, they were unambiguous copyright violations, and frankly, Hasbro has been very restrained in their IP ripostes considering some of the fan-generated content that’s still out there.
But keep the fanworks flowing, and don’t be like that guy mentioned here who was playing with fire without safety.
I think it’s best not to aggravate them. Hasbro has shown quite a bit of patience.
When it comes down to it this alone is nice of them. No matter how upset people get over them shutting down some things, it’s only the things that legitimately use their IP (for profit or not) and the simply have them stop. They have the right to go much further and sue but they choose not to. That’s cool of them!
They shouldn’t need to alter their product at all because it’s theirs, not Hashbrony’s. You don’t compete with the person who’s stealing your property and selling it for a profit while giving you no royalties. You sue them.
Hasbro is still a bro compared to companies like Microsoft, Disney, and Universal. Some companies out there sue people who use their IPs for satire even though satire is fair use.
And lets think about it this way:
They could sue him so hard in court and for so much money that his childrens children would end up paying with their pocket money. They didn’t.
Tell me something that’s new.
We are not their target audience.
Fan material is fine, but not this.
