Sunset Satan was my favorite part, the transformation itself felt creepy, and Sunset’s all-too-brief time as a demoness was cool, in a nightmarish way (even though her plan didn’t make any sense, how could she possibly stand a chance at taking over a land of powerful mages and other badflanks?).
Now, give us Season 4.
“Do you even know what happens when you take an EoH into this world?”
Sounds as much like a lazy and hastily contrived plot point now as it did then.
As for Sunset Shimmer, let’s see a popular bitchy teen who uses her status to manipulate people around her. Still sounds like every other generic antagonist in teen melodrama schlock.
But I’m not going to dig much deeper into it. The weak story and generic villain is only like the 5th and 6th thing wrong with this “movie.”
Ok,now it looks a little similar…but at the same time not really IMO.
As for the EoH,remember how she said “Do you even know what happens when you take an EoH into this world?”
In other words, new rules apply.
I didn’t care much for her personality as a villain really…but at the same time liked it.
She already “took over” the school. It was even said she used charisma and smarts upfront but was plotting behind the others backs. Then it was to late, she was basically in control. But let’s be honest,I’m giving the character to much credit.
As for Darth Maul, you’d be surprised how much of a following this “barely memorable” character has. I’m not one of them,I actually like the Emperor myself.
He takes himself way so seriously…but we all know no one else does. Half of the Sith must follow him just for his personality alone,he’s just so damned funny!

Regarding the EoH, she used a power that for the purpose of continuity she shouldn’t have been able to use.
As for the army of teenagers, yeah it;s still impossible to take seriously. It’s a weak premise, with a goofy execution.
And the five minutes of screen time where the witers try to pass her off as a actual villain doesn’t excuse the generic bitch in a teeny bopper schlock film.
Two generic stereotypes don’t make an original idea for a villain.
As for Darth Maul, all he did was off a barely memorable throw away character that no knew anything about or had any emotional investment.
Mogwai!? Not even close…she also had the power of the EoH of Magic…basically the most powerful artifact in Equestria was hers.
I also doubt the teenagers would of done much. They were most likely fodder while she did most of the work, all great evil conquerors requires an army, even if it’s just a fodder army.
Actually Darth Maul did more really,at least he killed a Jedi Master. All SS did was break a wall.
She was a generic throw away villian with ridiculous plan, trying to conquer Equestria with an army of gangly teenagers with no special powers and no combat training. Seriously, Pinky and The Brain had more coherent plans for world domination.
It’s even more difficult to see her as a legitimate threat when she looks like a mogwai dipped in red paint.
On a villain scale, I would put her on par with Darth Maul, you can find her design kind of cool, but really she doesn’t offer much beyond that.
Plus her “demon” form is only about five or six minutes, a poor pay off for the build up.
Well let’s see.
It’s a kids show…and the villain is a cross between the Devil,Chrysalis and a Daedra.
Yeah…that’s kinda fucked up…I though Chryssalis was bloody evil. She didn’t want to out right kill anyone, she just wanted to devour their love just to live…Sunset Shimmer wanted to outright KILL Twilight. Again, this is meant for little girls?
Think about it like that. Yeah…fucked up,ain’t it?
That was a “Holy Shit” moment for you?
You really don’t get out much, do you?
Ditto on that.
Especially the fucking demon bit…I said “Holy Shit” out loud in the theater…I just hope the children didn’t hear me…
This guy said basically everything I wanted to.
I was more referring to the irony of the writers wanting to “get the movie out of the way,” and now they’ll be stuck with for a contractually obligated tme period.
Of course not; it’s a toyline. After all, Hasbro is a toy company.
That may be true, the backfire is the portion of the fanbase that is eating it up, and when Hasbro sees an opportunity to cash in… Lets just say we haven’t seen the last of this concept.
