Description
Gerhana and Juniper are well known in Tahun City, Summer Island, Overland. They both like to rollerblade in the skating area. However, there is one thing that sticks Gerhana and Juniper out from the other overlanders. They both wear masks. A lot of creatures, both overlanders and non overlanders alike want to know what Gerhana and Juniper look like without their masks. Unfortunately, everytime they do find a picture of Juniper and Gerhana without their masks, it’s just their younger selves from when they were in primary school. This led to Juniper and Gerhana being known as “The Masked Couple” because they always wear their black masks in public. Although, they both wear their masks, they both have their own reasons why.
Juniper’s reason:
Juniper was bullied for his looks when he was in Primary School. The boys that bullied Juniper always said that he his face looked “too girly”. It didn’t help that Juniper was a shy kid in primary school and that he never had many friends. This led to Juniper being insecure of his face,which is why he would start wearing his face in Secondary School at age 11 (Year 6). Of course, this would lead to some trouble as Juniper’s teachers weren’t always able to identify him because he wore the mask. However, in his later years of Secondary School at age 15 (Year 9), he met Gerhana, who had recently transferred. She also wore the mask and this would led to Juniper and Gerhana being good friends and it even become romantic with each other in their last year of Secondary School (Year 12).

Of course since the Overland is a tropical country and Summer Island being the hottest island, it wasn’t always comfortable. Everytime Gerhana would say she’s too hot, her mom would yell at her and accuse her of being ungrateful. This is pretty strange as most overlanders don’t wear clothes unless for holidays, but Gerhana always was made to wear clothes by her mom. It didn’t help that Gerhana’s dad wouldn’t do anything if she gotten yelled at by her mom. It wasn’t until Gerhana was age 11 and in Secondary School, (Year 6) that she started to wear the mask. Her mom went berserk and screamed at her that people won’t take her seriously and to take off her mask, but Gerhana didnt care and argued back. When Gerhana was 15 (Year 9), she and her family moved to Tahun City and she would be transferred to Tahun Secondary School, where she would meet Juniper, who also wore the mask. The Overland is sort of understanding of mental health, though not as understanding as Equestria. The Overland is more conservative country than Equestria. Gerhana and Juniper would have a hard time finding a exposure therapist.
Hiding your face in public due to that is a coping mechanism, but it can reinforce feelings of fear and avoidance.
It’s important to gradually challenge this behavior through exposure therapy or guided practice with the help of a therapist or someone you truly trust.
Building their confidence in social situations can start with small steps, ya know? Visiting small places and less crowded folks, Little by little, it doesn’t have to go away all of the sudden. w
I wasn’t trying to force the story. I made the lore for both Juniper and Gerhana weeks before I made the post. Tbh I don’t give a crap about the downvotes anyways. At least there’s always going to be people who like my art. Glad you enjoy it. I’m not sure if Gerhana or Juniper would ever take their masks off since if they do, they’d think every overlander would make such a big deal about it.

Now, judging each one’s tragic past carries this habit among them and it is their way of expressing themselves to the world, the special thing about it is that in the end they found someone who understands. Someone who will not judge.
Regardless of their reasons, their strong friendship can overcome this habit and over time they can leave this seal of the past and release the grievance they went through and accept each other as they grow up without hiding anything and offer more to themselves.

Overall, do whatever you want to show and express emotions, this is to show you’re not afraid of anything you’re committed to and as long as you’re hurting nobody.
