Queen Chrysalis wasn’t always evil. She used to be a good and beautiful Changeling before King Metamorphosis came and invaded her kingdom. When Chrysalis confronted the evil dark version of a Changeling, Metamorphosis asked her to marry him and be his Queen. When Chrysalis refused, Metamorphosis trapped her inside a cocoon until she transformed into a hideous monster that takes the form of a loved one and gains power by feeding on their love for them. After Queen Chrysalis became just as evil and heartless as the monster who cursed her, she became the mother and queen of her Changeling brood at the Hive that Metamorphosis built for her and her army. The only way to break Metamorphosis’s curse is to have a Changeling change from being a corrupt and hungry monster to a beautiful and loving creature that shares love instead of feeding on it.

After Emperor Grogar was defeated, Starlight Glimmer offered Queen Chrysalis another chance to turn over a new leaf and when she finally accept her friendship, the curse was broken and Chrysalis was transformed back into her beautiful form. After she had been reformed, Chrysalis returned to the Changeling Hive and became a loving mother to her subjects and she shared love and friendship with her sons, King Thorax and Pharynx. A few years later, King Metamorphosis would eventually learn that his curse had been lifted and he later joined Lord Tirek and his Legion Of Doom so that he would not only help Tirek resurrect Grogar and seek revenge on his enemies, but he would also have someone to help him achieve his goals in devouring all love and life in Equestria and forcing Chrysalis into marriage.
