Anything officially made and licensed by Hasbro is canon unless disowned. So the novels would be canon, as would the comics, the toys and their descriptions, Adventure Ponies, etc.
 
Now these might not share the same continuity, but that’s different.

This show plays fast and loose with details. Any information given is likely to never be important again, and information in any extraneous source like a book is almost certain never to be important at all.

Twilight sparkle and the Chrystal heart spell was not written by the show’s writers. A writer’s friend was the one who wrote the book. Hasbro just stamped their name on it. It may be official in that hasbro has their name on it, but it is not canon.

Cadence was never A Pegasus. This is an official, canon book, twilight sparkle and the crystal heart spell is not. This book talks nothing of cadence ever being a pegisus.

Well from what I have read already, Cadance performed whatever heroic stuff she did before becoming an alicorn and probably meeting Celestia so I suppose she didn’t need much magic training but receive mostly princess education and stuff like that. I suppose every princess who became one by ascending to alicorn state is adopted in some way by becoming an honorary member of the royal family.

I’ve always had it in my headcanon Cadence wasn’t entirely related to Celestia, and belonged to another lineage. She might not even have started as royalty, just some filly Celestia decided to adopt. the Crystal Empire probably had another ruling family before Sombra. The Celestial Sisters might not even be related to Platinum, a different ruling dynasty.
