Discord plan worked in a roundabout way. In the end, twilight was more confident and prepared to rule the nation than every before. Discord the unsung hero of s9, Equestria is better off ultimately due to him. In he put himself in harms way to free his captured comrades to make things right even staying behind to help.

I think discord did make up for what he did by helping defeat the bad guys also turning them to stone.

(In my view I say the bad guys got turned good but that is besides the point)

He did had good intentions and tried to help twilight but he took it to the extreme when he should asked twilight or celestia, but is not like I would blame him given how the other ponies acted towards him seasons ago.

If they thought him better or maybe he wouldn’t come to the extreme conclution.

But it’s over now and I think the ponies forgave him after he helped.
