I’m still a mod, I just post as not-a-mod so people stop taking my personal opinions as SITE POLICY and stuff.
As for insults and whatever the hell, really, it seems pretty simple to me. You can express whatever opinions you have with utter freedom, under the condition that you can phrase them as an adult. If OP is a complete idiot whose logic is flawed to the most integral level, that’s great, you can say that and expose why he’s so completely wrong and undeserving of any attention whatsoever. Dropping just an “op is a faggot” is not only cheap, but both insults people not related at all to OP and fortifies OP’s post as it implies you have no argument better than a weak insult.
Really, you can say pretty much whatever you want on this site, as long as you can word it like an adult.

It’s more of a proxy, connection obfuscator, and VPN all mixed together. Connections are bounced through multiple intermediate nodes with several layers of end-to-end encryption. This basically makes it impossible to trace a connection, even if you run one of the nodes.
It was originally designed as a way for people in countries with oppressive regimes (eg. China) to bypass state surveillance.

Thanks for the info. I suppose it makes sense, but I don’t see why people who want to do that sort of thing don’t bounce their connection through Tor and then through a normal proxy - all of the privacy of Tor with a permitted IP.
Then again, I don’t really see why someone would want to post that sort of stuff here in the first place.

“Politically correct” is kind of in discussion. What we’d prefer is a more civil manner of discourse than “lol ur a faggot”. That is, we’d rather people actually either explain properly why that person is in the wrong, or use more mature insults (like “you’re a blithering idiot and everyone you’ve ever met is worse off for doing so”).
We generally dislike people using cheap, blanket insults. Because, well, you’re not just being an ass to OP (or whoever), but to whoever else your insults generally applies to by extension and doesn’t actually deserve your derision.
Basically, we’re more insufferably pedantic than anything else.
Derpibooru is politically correct. It is not a hugbox. We are not all nice. We do not suffer fools lightly.
I’ve never heard /mlp/ talk about derpibooru.org but they generally call everything they don’t browse a hugbox.
Sadly, on topic discussions are rarely as interesting as the off topic ones.
We do still ban TOR. It was abused by at least one person spamming child porn (the “holy shit that’s a real child getting raped what the fuck” kind, not drawings or whatever). Given the “plz no” levels of badness that can come from people abusing it, we decided to outright block the whole thing.
Also on a tangent because I know there are people observing and judging, I don’t want this place to become a hub for discussion or fandom direction or anything of the sort. I just want to host pictures of ponies, along with moderately civil discussion about said pictures.
Actually, I think Derpi just doesn’t support them.
Well, thanks for putting up with us. It must be stressful and frustrating at times, but you do a pretty good job.
Out of interest do you still ban Tor exit nodes? I remember a while back I tried to access derpiboo.ru through Tor and it gave me a 503 Forbidden error.
There should really be an ‘internet taser’ that electrocutes people whenever they get banned.
This is a very annoying thing, trust me. Some people can get a new IP by just resetting their network adapter in their OS or restarting their router; takes less than a minute and their ISP hands them a new IP, often not in the “same range” as the last (ie it varies a hell of a lot).
And then there’s proxies, all sorts of them, and beside blocking the obvious ones (because frankly open proxies ala glype are just used for shitposting or spambots), we can’t just ban “proxies”, because 1. there’s a lot of them, and 2. outright ban affects legit users (like me, I use a proxy to access this place).
Amusingly this board’s best known “shitposters” don’t abuse proxies or ban evade when the hammer falls. And unless they’re a really persistent and acerbic type of asshole or go on “lolbronyfaggots” spamming sprees, most bans are basically slaps on the wrist.
Also, even bans on /mlp/ are a very hit-and-miss affair. Some people are terrified of being banned because they have a static IP, while others can ban evade in just a couple of minutes without ever leaving their computer.
I have to say, as a person who’s been banned multiple times, that you guys do a pretty bang-up job for a band of misfits.
I mean, yeah, we have some weird “don’t be an asshole” rules, but at least we try to apply them with a minimum of consistency.
