A potential threat. In the dream, the Pet-Chimera appears to Rainbow mid-flight, and shocks her into falling. Symbolically, it represents the potential danger that she could fail to protect her friends from, leading from a carefree and happy life to the failure and subsequent emotional darkness that would come after.

What about the pet-chimera thing? What does that represent?

It seems to me that this is highly indicative of Rainbow Dash’s greatest fears. Being the Element of Loyalty, she’s terrified of one day failing her friends or letting them down. This is represented metaphorically in the dream, of her flying carefree (something she prides herself in), before inexplicably losing her ability to do so and falling into a dark void, representing her fears of failure, both to her flying abilities and to her friends.
