Well, since she been living with Opaline her whole life, maybe she can be the one to change her. After all, she has the power to change which her cutie mark represents in the Cutie Mark Blossom Bash episode.

And seeing some episodes from the Secrets of Starlight (>>3252531 and >>3246460), I think that that someone can very well be Misty herself. She’s empathetic, she wants to get to the bottom of the motivation behind someone’s actions, and she may still share a bond with Opaline, even if a twisted one.

Now that’s something I wish for.

I could see this as a ending to that episode. Misty all happy everything back to normal asks “So what happen to Opaline, did she get away?” Sunny looks to the tree and states she’s somehow trapped inside, some of the others comment that’s how it should be as Misty slowly walks up to it, and places her hoof on the tree. Noticing Misty’s demeanor, Sunny shushes the others placing her hoof on her back. Misty sadly says, “I know she didn’t care about me, but she was all I had growing up, I just wish she changed instead.” Cue the others giving her a hug, reminding her of her family. Sunny replies maybe someday, someone can get her to understand.

Yes . I think so too. But what if she abuses Opaline? Opaline now has no home, no cutie mark and no family.
