Oops, major derpage on my part. No idea why I interpreted ナンデ in such a counterintuitive way. Maybe I misread it as ナンヤデ and assumed they were using Kansai-ben for some reason?

And yes, Western misinterpretations of ninjas are bloody hilarious if you really think about it.

I don’t know where the meme comes from, but it seems every time ninjas show up in a video on NicoNico there’s comments like this. The proper translation is: “AAIIEEE!!! NINJAS? WHY ARE THERE NINJAS?!!”

Japan thinks ninjas are fucking hilarious – particularly the Western misinterpretations of them, which I’m pretty sure is how this meme got started.
