Teens are not the ones buying Monster High. It’s young girls ages 7-10. Teenage girls are not usually interested in dolls unless they are collectors, and EQG is not for collectors. It’s for the niche of young girls who don’t like ponies but do like dolls, which makes me wonder why Hasbro thinks making pony-themed dolls will be a hit.
Ironically, there are teenage girls who are already into ponies: they’re young bronies. That is why I think Hasbro is cannibalizing it’s brand based on shoddy pretenses. This is a pony movie for girls who like Monster High, and think they are too old to like ponies– in other words, it’s for no-one.
I´m pretty sure all hasbro did was to tell the studio/writers to make a teen spin-off from MLP cause
a) it got a whole lot of fame on its back aka it´s well known by now
b) they want to put their feet into the teen girl market for making more money and a teen girl show is a good way to promote dolls/toys/etc
c)there hasn´t been much new great series in the teen girl market, a good time to try to get a piece of the cake
d) Hasbro´s too busy with doing their toy jobs and advertise and what not stuff, so they left it to professional hands like most corporations would do
e)they wouldn´t waste time with thinking up story, characters and design. Its easier to follow what the studio found out through own experience and studies what teen girls likes and make toys for that. Once the show runs and isn´t a failure they can try to get in extra stuff like pets, clothes, etc. which then gets shown in the show
f)lo and behold, most teen girls don´t like ponies on four legs. Give them monsters on two and they sell like hot cakes, just look at Monster High
g) i don´t know who personally does the writing or the animation for this spin-off but i doubt that all good writers/animators are only with MLP. There´s quite a chance that EG also got a good staff behind it.
And who knows? They might want to show a teen girl series which isn´t (though it surely will have and i expect it to have, after all the Twi+new Mane5 are highschool girls in this setting) always about boyfriends and mode and beauty problems.
YOU DON’T TALK THAT WAY TO ZORDON!
(hits him over the head with a 2x4)
Quit blue guy in a tube. Can we dream that it’ll be bad.
That is one of my biggest reasons for not trusting the direction on it. All of MLP’s writers are busy writing the show, and EQG was developed internally by Hasbro’s marketing department, which would probably explain why there is such a disconnect between FiM and what we are seeing for EQG. I will be quite surprised if it somehow manages to defy my already low expectations.
It might be shit without end, but it might not.
Having a different team doesn’t outright mean it’s going to be bad, so your point is?
This is a different team.
Because then it would be an explicit picture, with maybe some pregnancy/vore.
How do I know it wasn’t you?
In fairness, just cause the designs don’t look good don’t mean the writing will be utter crap.
Oh yes, because it has to look good to be good just like way I became a fan of FiM…
Oh wait that’s a lie, I thought the look of the show was just meh and got to like it for things other then how it looks.
The difference is that even before I was a brony I could acknowledge that the show had very cute character designs. Equestria Girls’ character designs are straight up nightmare fuel, and I think it’s fair for us to judge them.
We are supposed to give it the benefit of the doubt. How many of us would have thought we’d ever be fans of freakin’ My Little Pony? And yet we are! Because the creative staff knew what they were doing.
Yeah, because promotional art has NOTHING to do with the finished product.
I suppose that a benefactor cant bitch about a prototype someone gives him, can he?
