Yeah, just commenting on a post got buried in all the other notifications. Which is why folks would reblog & add their comment then, so it at least showed up somewhere visible.
Edited because: adding examples
You realize I am not talking about posts I would make, right? I am talking about status updates for blog posts other people have made. For instance, below a ‘Ask Twilight’ image post there would be a long stream of status updates, but the vast majority of those status updates are for reblogs or likes. It takes forever to sort through them all to see any legitimate comments that said post might have, and in some cases a post might have no comments whatsoever.
Yes, you can reply to things on Tumblr, either by adding your own bit to a reblog (like this post) or by commenting directly on the picture. You can also turn off notifications for things like likes and reblogs if you want, but if someone reblogs something from you and adds their own thoughts on it or adds to a joke or whatever, that should notify you as well. Back in the old days it would not show you if in a reblog someone added something, so if you haven’t used Tumblr in a while that might be why you never saw folks add things. This has been a feature for a while though, makes it easy to see at glance who’s just reblogging quietly and who’s adding stuff.
Yeah, I remember when that decision was made. It was back when Verizon owned the site and was trying to ‘improve’ it and make it more mainstream. Ironically, by doing that they killed off the strong communities that Tumblr had. Now it is just a shell of its former self, and Verizon stopped owning the site years ago (now it is owned by Automattic, who also owns Wordpress).
That’s because Tumblr kinda imploded years back when they banned adult content, and a lot of folks just left. Before then, it was much more common to reblog a post with your own comment, making chains like this.
Hm…people can actually comment on Tumblr? I am confused. When I have looked at the blog history of various Tumblr posts, all I have seen was a sea of ‘so-and-so liked this post’ or ‘so and so reblogged this post’. I have never seen any actual comments for a Tumblr post before. Kind of makes me wish Tumblr didn’t log each and every time someone likes or reblogs a post, though.
Tumblr, obviously.
Yeah, especially with Tumblr lingo in mind this is absolutely meant as an affectionate post.
I think the screencapped post was made with nothing but affection in mind.
