basically bat ponies’ ancestry dates back to normal earth ponies who took refuge in caves from the wendigos’ winter storms, migrating all the way to the other side of the planet opposite to equestria. they lived among bats and over time evolved bat-like features to adapt to their dark environment, which ofc means bat wings, tufts of fluff on their ears, slit pupils, and fangs! they also come out mainly at night (like real bats) and sleep during the day, which means their kingdom is active at night as equestria is during the day.
eventually, they made their own kingdom, Nighterida, that was ruled by a princess, the only bat pony with a horn and wings. at first it was considered taboo for a bat pony to have a horn, but in their desperate need for a leader they crowned that bat pony princess and ruler of the kingdom. the current bat pony princess, Princess Evening Nightfall ( the princess at the top ) is a descendant of that first bat pony princess, and future heirs to the throne will have her ancestral blood.
there are two main types of bat ponies in Nighterida: dark bat ponies and light bat ponies. light bat ponies (left) tend to be more pastel/brightly colored, whereas dark bat ponies (right) are darkly colored. there are more dark bat ponies than their are light bat ponies, which often results in light bat ponies being outcasted due to their terrible camouflage (at least back then, there isnt really a need for camouflage now)
bat ponies most often have night/dark related talents, and those who don’t are usually food/nature related.
the biggest city in the kingdom of Nighterida is Batsborough, which is where my oc frosting comes from ! i have a lot of bat pony lore relating to frosting n’ it kinda strays away from the mlp canoin since it focuses mainly on bat ponies bc,,, i love them sm 💕

and thats that ! it was a lot of fun to come up with this hc because i like world building :]
also, all the ponies here are my ocs, mostly old ones who i touched up a bit to fit with my current style ✨
