When Chaos Protects the Sun from the Evil by InuHoshi-to-DarkPen, 2013-06-29T17:04:06Z

Not long ago I heard the egyptien legend of Seth, Re and Apophis:

Re’s, the sun god’s biggest enemy was Apophis, the god of evil, who usually had the form of a serpent. It said that Apophis could hypnotize Re and it’s ship’s crew. Only Seth, the god of chaos was the only one who couldn’t be hypnotized. So he got the task to protect Re from Apohpis.

Of course as MLP:FiM fan, I had to think right away about Celestia and Discord. And this picture happened.
Why does the snake has similar eye of Sombra. Well because of dark magic and everything.

Reminds me a lot about how in Egyptian Mythology, the Sun was the god Ra on a boat, and every night the boat had to travel through the underworld. While there, Ra and the other gods were beset by Apophis, the serpent embodiment of all true evil and chaos, and the only one who could protect them was Set, who eventually killed his brother Osiris to take the throne of Egypt and had to fight his nephew Horus for it. (Think Scar from Lion King fighting off Chernabog/Satan from Fantasia to protect, I don’t know, Walt Disney on his flying boat sun.)

Quite late, but going by the artist’s description on DA that was the exact intention behind this piece – Discord as Set, Celestia as Ra and the shadow monster as Apep.

Funny. Discord is a dark being of chaos, while Sombra is a dark being of complete order.
COMPLETE ORDER. Not harmony, but enslavement and dictatorship.
This would be one interesting fight. BRB grabbing popcorn.

I don’t think Celestia necessarily has to be helpless in this context, she could be doing other things with her magic off screen. But yeah, she’s not helpless.
