it’s almost like disability is just a thing you have to live with and conceiving of it as this doomy tragedy forever is as unhealthy as never moving on from the grief of a personal loss. if you were to go blind or lose a leg or something it’s obviously natural to be sad and find it difficult and even dwell on it for a while afterwards but eventually you come to terms with a new normal and get on with your life. to characterise this scene as grimdark says more about the commenter than the scene

That’s probably what it felt like at the time, but she’s had years to come up with ways to cope. Being casual about it is probably an effective coping mechanism.

Quite a grimdark to have Pegasi so casual about losing the ability of flight when in most stories, the loss of flight to a Pegasus might as well be a standing on the brink of sanity. Its more than just a part of them, its a way of life.
