Well, at the hardware level it’s all a spectrum. Voltages from +12V to -12V, with certain ranges defined as logical zero and logical one for each component. Much like the gender binary, it’s an arbitrary structure imposed on an inherently messy natural process. (“Natural” in this case meaning “governed by the cold unfeeling laws of electrodynamics”.)

And at the software level, the beauty of digital logic is that you only need a single two-state data type in order to define an arbitrarily large or even countably infinite set of states. It’s something we take for granted now, with 64-bit integers and terabyte drives, but there was a time when this was groundbreaking stuff. So now you can have hundreds or thousands or even 18 quintillion of whatever you wish: genders, pronouns, romantic orientations. Though I’d recommend sticking to the “hundreds or thousands”. That last number is pretty big.
