So does that mean the time FIM has contradicted itself (like Maud not being in the S1 flashback) also not canon (to say nothing of the G4 comics/expanded universe)? Or is there a reason we’re not supposed to use what lets us rationalize/deal with those contradictions here?

And if the official creators saying X is canon has no more weight than fans, does that not render the concept meaningless such dismissing X as non-canon is also meaningless? If it were non-canon would that make why we don’t like it go away?

I agree thus far G5 would be better as a separate canon as it’s failing to incorporate the G4 continuity that would make undoing the ending worth it, and anything that could satisfactorily explain it is more mature than it could handle. But if this was a non-canon fanwork but had the same problems would we be less critical/more inclined to enjoy it?

Rejecting what you don’t like as non-canon doesn’t change why it’s bad and devalues the also non-canon fanworks that we find superior.

If I made fan fiction where Applejack turns Apple Boom into a cyborg and destroys Manehatten and then said it was canon it still wouldn’t be canon
