Ouch.
Some great fanfics have gone that route. I remember one Pokemon Black and White novelization fanfic that gave Hilda her own character and I consider the definitive portrayal of her and it’s over now.
I swear one day if I have enough skill, I’ll make my own unofficial sequels to them to give some closure.
