At time of writing, I’m figuring this out as I go along just as much as the in-character group is. Par for the course, I guess. Something in the character-simulating part of my subconscious brain just decided that we had to take this tangent for reasons.

Twilight Sparkle: Since we can’t phone a friend right now, is there anything we can figure out on our own?
DM: Maybe. Does someone want to make a Perception check?
Applejack: <roll> 24.
DM: Anyone want to help her?
Fluttershy: Can I roll Nature instead?
DM: Sure thing.
Fluttershy: <roll> 30.
DM: Okay, it’s a little hard to tell given the decay and the strangling thorny vines… but it does seem like there’s a groove at the end of each of the five stone branches. And in the center of the tree’s mass, where teh bulk of the remaining crystal is getting squeezed into oblivion… it almost looks like there’s sliding plates that open up to an internal chamber.
Rainbow Dash: Ahhh, DANG IT. The Elements came from this thing and now it wants them back.
DM: …I’d say I’m surprised, but I could have made this a little more subtle.
Rarity: But we need them for Discord…
Twilight Sparkle: Well, you did say the tree has some time left, so we could come back to this later… But… Hmmm…
DM: Should we be concerned?
