It’s not as simple as you might think. Many of history’s worst atrocities: the Holocaust, Oklahoma City bombing, 2011 Norway attacks New Zealand mosque shootings, etc. didn’t happen out of thin air. They were all preceded by the masses condoning the circulation of hate speech, conspiracy theories and propaganda as simply “mean words.” Edgy jokes and dark humor aren’t necessarily a bad thing, far from it, but it’s gotten to the point where people have acted upon their violent urges and inflicted their bloodlust upon innocents.

Putin and his cronies wouldn’t be where they are if not for a large swath of the Russian people supporting them. Same applies to the Germans when they elected Hitler and the Americans when they decided to elect Trump. Corrupt leaders don’t come to power just out of thin air.
