Yeah, I use to sweat that when I am doing my crossover images, put in some hours on conceptual work, all hand drawn, inked and colored. But while I get some praise, suggestions and comments on improving which is helpful; I have have 4-5 members that constant downvote all of them without placing a reason as to why.
 
If I downvote something, at least I would try to give a reason or critique the image. After a while just filter the subject matter if nothing changes. Only one I don’t filter is Cartuneslover16, since she has some potential but stories and descriptions are bad but found myself now abstain (self-imposed) from her work and just try to objectively critique the work.
 
I digress, I don’t mind the voting system but I look for comments (be it positive or negative) to gauge the level of my own work. The level of downvotes is minuscule to compared to the upvotes so if the downvoter don’t give a reason for their negative vote, it is assumed they are trolls, a-holes, idiots too stupid to filter tags, or some haters that cannot produce quality art.

I do wish people voted more objectively because some pretty mediocre stuff gets upvoted by a whole lot of people.

Here on DB downvotes don’t really matter. You can see how many individual upvotes and downvotes were made, so you might as well ignore the total score.  
Now if it was JUST the score there on display that would be a different story.

Sad or pathetic whichever fits, their only reason is probably because “they can.”

We have 3-4 users that will downvote apparently at random, between them hitting at least 75% of the images on the site. Doesn’t matter what its quality, at least one of them will downvote it. They’re pretty much just playing at being anti-Roboshi.
 
Hint, see red? They’re one of them.
 
Then of course we have roughly a dozen people that don’t understand filters and will downvote the near totality of content they could filter away with one tag. Generally ships or characters is where they’re noticed the most; doesn’t matter the theme or the quality, if it’s character Y or ship X, they’re going to downvote it.
 
And of course the fetishes; god forbid people start filtering “scat” or whatever the hell else they never want to see in the first place and be done with it.
 
Basically the “voting as quality control” idea is a great idea turned to shit.

It says that it’s GIF so chances are it’s animated, but I checked the last 10 pages of animated tag and there are no pics with 140+ score that have this exact size.
