For a long time, I hated the Gurren Lagann ending. There were a lot of reasons. It seemed unnecessary. It contradicted the never say die theme of the show. And quite frankly I felt after all the suffering they went through Simon and Nia deserved to have a happy ending. But recently I think I discovered what the real reason was. I have suffered with depression for a very long time. If I endured what Simon did, I would either drink myself to death or just snap and fly into a psychotic rage. But the fact that Simon is able to remain optimistic and hopeful for the future even after losing Nia, it just doesn’t make sense to me. I realize it’s fiction but the very idea of someone being capable of that is so beyond my understanding that its infuriating to me.

Yet another incredibly stupid scene among several that reminds me why I like to pretend the second half of Gurren Lagann never existed.

I REFUSE TO EVER BELIEVE THAT THIS ENDING HAPPENED! HOW DARE YOU EVEN MENTION IT!

luckily if seems that SRW Z is adverting this, after defeated the moon size anti-spiral cathedral lazengann, anti-spiral appears in a dark gurren lagann (ORIGINAL PLOT, DON’T STEAL!), simon and CO defeat him and rescue Nia (who goes back to normal).  
but…the anti-spiral is not killed, he just leaves saying he will let simon live a little more…and of course, there are still the “baal” which the “the dark knowlegde” dictates that will destory the multiverse (yeah, multi), i hope that in SRW Z3 we are given the option of avoiding Nia’s canon fate 8but they didn’t allow us to save Kamina).
