Well, G0 I not know, I was not in MLP at the Time.
mylittlewiki.org know no G0 too.
MLP G1 was made between 1982 and 1995, I guess the G0 are the first Try to made a Equine Toy.
Hasbro had made them 1981 and the 10 inch Hard Plastic Figures was known as “My Pretty Pony”.
Thats the only I could call G0, because it was pre G1 and the first Pony Toy Hasbro has released.
One Year later in 1982 Hasbro has start with the first 6 “My Little Pony” Figures who later was called Generation One or G1 (The G# Names are not used by Hasbro, they are unofficially created by Collectors).

Hitch look like he was made in G1 Style.
The Group Picture, if that ist the Direction of G5, then we should not fear it would replace G4.
Like they say “Turning S**t into Gold”, by reducing Render Figures into Pony Life Caricatures.
Maybe thats why hasbro let us wait a Year until a Show, they want to check first, how many Fans G5 produce.
Maybe it would be better, if they not start a new MLP Universe and do a real Next Generation, with the Children of the Mane 6, similar to the Boruto Series, with Twilight at Celestias Place and the older Mane 6 as Sidechar.

I guess it’t just a back to G3 Idea.
G1-3 was supposed for Girls in the Age of 8-12 or so, with the Ponys in a similar Age.
Then there was G4 with adult characters around an Age of 20 and Content who more fit Teenagers between 14 and 17.
Ponylife and G5 go back in the Age.
Ponylive is more for smaller Children around 8, the G5 Movie is made more for Audience between 12 and 14.
Except Hitch who is Sheriff, none of the Main 5 has a real Job.
Pipp and Zipp are just Royals who act like them, Izzy has no Job too, if she is not an Freelance Artist.
Sunny has maybe a Job or she is just using the Delivery of the Smoothies to go inside the Expo.
If we look on G4, Twilight is Liberian, Student and later Royality, Rainbow is Part of the Weather Management Team and later Part of the Wonderbolts, AJ is the Head of a big Apple Farm and often Salespony on the Market, Rarity is professional Tailor and own at last Stores (Ponyville, Canterlot, Manehatan), Pinkie is Working in the Shop of the Caces as Baker, Shoppony and Party Manager and Fluttershy is Animal Caretaker and own the Sweet Feather Animal Sanctuary.
Thats a big Difference in the Life Progress.
I would say, the Main 5 are Teenagers between 14 and 16, hitch is maybe 19, Sprout 17-18.

I guess G5 is meant to be for a younger Audience, so it will not realy go into a similar Quality like G4 was.
If the Mane 6 realy appear like we have see them in the Form of Twilight, Fluttershy and Rainbow, then it would be clear, that G5 is not the FiM Universe.
The Title “A new Generation” then not mean a new Generation of Ponys after the Mane 6, it just mean a new Generation in Generation 5.
The Land maybe base on G4 but it is a complete different World, as you can see in the different Races of Twilight, Fluttershy and Pinkie.

My guess right now is that Hasbro doesn’t know how to create a good 2D style for G5

The Middle Version would be an Design who could fit G5 as Cartoons, but not the Ponly Life Look.
By the Way, I guess the middle Hitch would look like this in G1-3.^^
