Description
“Everypony in Ponville knows this excitable mare! She might be a klutz, and maybe even a little ditzy, but she really only wants to help. She can be seen around town making deliveries and working with the weather team, but she also has a knack for showing up whenever something interesting is going on. Just don’t be surprised if she eats all the muffins in your fridge if she comes over to visit!”
I personally don’t care either. What ticks me in this entire event of chaos was that a giant corporation like Hasbro had bend towards the nonsensical demands of a selfish minority over the majority.
I was never bothered by “Derpy,” but I liked “Ditzy Doo” better personally, but let’s not start that stuff up again.
Also, I don’t like how she has to be nameless now personally to avoid pissing-off butthurt people like yourself. (But oh well, I guess that’s how it has to be.)
“Derpy,” “Ditzy,” whatever, I don’t care what people want to call her personally.
Maybe we should just call her “Ed?” :P
That was one helluva explaination, thanks!
She’s Derpy, and in every single dub of the show she’s Derpy. Italian, French, Spanish, in literally every single dub of the show, she’s still called Derpy.
Her name is Derpy. I know it, Hasbro knows it, everyone knows it. Hasbro just doesn’t want to start shit again.
Sounds about right.
I actually like to think of “Ditzy-Doo” as her real name, and “Derpy” as her nickname. (Though, I suppose neither name is really flattering.)
Actually, the whole story goes, Lauren & the gang who make the show were planning on having a “ditzy/clumbsy/dimwitted” comical pony, and the name “Ditzy-Doo” was refering to that pony. (Not the grey-furred, purple-haired one like everyone claims.)
When the “Derpy Hooves” meme took off, (to the point where they started crossing her eyes on purpose in the show) they considered calling the blond-haired grey pony “Ditzy-Doo” as a callback to the “Winter Wrap-Up” episode. Lauren Faust even confirmed that, though stated in regards to the name she doesn’t wanna “step on anyone’s ‘Derpy’ love, and they can still call her ‘Derpy’ if they want.”
Also, in the original script to “The Last Round-up” according to the writer Megan, the character was originally called “Ditzy-Doo” in the script, but then they decided to change it to “Derpy” as a nod to the “brony” fans. Then some of the makers of the show found out some internet definitions for “Derpy” ment “retarded,” which lead to “unfortunate implications,” so they had no choice but to edit out the name.
And thanks to the whole “Derpygate” fan controversy, with both fans who didn’t want to call her “Derpy,” as well as fans who didn’t want to call her “Ditzy-Doo,” now sadly the li’l pony has to be nameless in merch’, and such thanks to complainers on both sides of the argument.
Isn’t that just derpy with purple hair and eye surgery?
No, Ditzy Doo was intended to be a different pony Lauren was thinking on.
@Littlecabbit
Well, Bronies always say “it’s either Derpy or death”, and naming her “Derpy” seems to be “too risky” for several reasons, so I don’t blame them at all.
Especially when it can easily be found on the web. I doubt it has anything to do with a trademark.
Couldn’t Hasbro just… buy that trademark?
Some people think that this is Ditzy.
no
Yeah, a shirt company holds the trademark to Derpy
The new Nightmare Moon, obviously.
So, why don’t they just use Ditzy Doo?
Wasn’t that her original canon name anyway?
I don’t think Hasbro can trademark the word ‘Derpy’
Actually, I think somebody else already trademarked that word, not really sure though.
