I am worried that Season 4 is going to have the problems Season 1 had that Season 2 was trying to get away from, but moreso. I’m worried that either the entire show is going to be revolving around Twilight Sparkle now, or they are going to shove her into the back because they don’t know what to do with her anymore now that she’s in full-on godmode.
The biggest thing that Season 2 did better than Season 1 is that the writers were freed from the tyranny of having to put Twilight in every episode and make her learn something by the end, and it ultimately ammounted to Twilight being the third wheel who tries to make an insightful comment at the end.
With Twilight being the teacher now, it could get even clunkier than Season 1, because now Twilight is expected to be the mature one who everyone is learning from. Where do you even take that? Either the other 5 are going to be demoted to being Twilight’s sidekicks, or they are going to put Twilight somewhere so that they only have to deal with her a few times a season.
“Retcon”
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
A retcon is when new events/ideas/characters/concepts contradict previous events/ideas/characters/concepts.
Lesson Zero Didn’t retcon Twilight having the last word, since it’s not a contradiction. It’s established as to why this isn’t happening anymore in-universe, and it does not in anyway undo the last words Twilight had in S1.
The S3 final didn’t retcon anything, except maybe (emphasis deliberate) what Twilight’s friends destinies were.
Oh yeah, and before anyone comments: Twilight becoming an alicorn is not a retcon, because Faust’s supposed stipulation of “only two alicorns” was never established in-universe, thus does not count
Dude…NO. They were only USEFUL for the first season, Lesson Zero was an awesome retcon for Twilight always having the last word, which is poor writing for an ongoing season.
Too bad the season 3 premier and finale retconned the good retcon.
And I loved that a lot of the good episodes inbetween the bad S3 episodes just ignored them all together.
I mean seriously, how exactly would Twilight of all people summed up the lesson of Wonderbolt Academy.
“The truly couragous are willing to sacrifice their entire future for their ideals.” That sort of development is so far above Twilight’s narrow view, its laughable. And I’m not saying I hate Twilight, I’m just saying I KNOW her limits, and her limits are lecturing and her vices are brown-nosing.
Fuck you, the letters were great.
