From how interrogation methods are being developed in WW2, it seems that the best way to make sure the convicted ended up good is by treating them right while making sure there’s far worse prison for the worst. They need to get rehabilitated after all.

It’s very valid, and represents an idea that goes back much longer than when Dostoevsky said it, in that to get a real measure of how good a society is to its inhabitants, you should look at its lowest members, not its highest.

Dostoevsky was imprisoned by the Czarist police at one point, and was badly abused by them, including being made to endure a mock execution. I imagine the experience colored his attitude a bit.

in France, criminals absolutely don’t care to be in prison, they think it’s like a hotel so once they are free they totally do bad things again and learned nothing…
the main thing about a prison would be that we don’t want to return in it in my opinion so it should be a horrible place !

funny enough, some prisons around the world are known to give their prisoners such luxurious cells, just to teach them something other then a hard life behind bars.
