I think the answer is the element of surprise. The comic implies that the champions are originally friends, or at least treats Pom as the gentle kid.

If I have to offer well-intentioned criticism though, it’s getting a little repetitive of characters trying to stop Pom, Pom scaring the crap out of them, and proceed to curbstomp them making the rest look a lot more incompetent than they really are. (What happened to the Arizona who can cause earthquakes by stomping or Oleander’s full power?)

She was intended to have a Welsh or New Zealand accent but casting voices for specific accents is expensive. Same reason why Oleander has a British accent instead of a celtic one.
