Yeah. He was trying to save Optimus from being killed by Megatron. But he was too late. Since Optimus Prime take the matrix to Rodimus and he’s becoming a Prime. From his challenge to defeat Midnight Sparkle. During the battle, Rodimus blasted the Matrix to Midnight Sparkle to stop her returning back to Sci Twi. When Rodimus burst from his memory into the matrix and he reverts back to Hot Rod. Just as Sunset Shimmer do.

This is how Rodimus losing his memory because of the Matrix and reverts back to Hot Rod.

Actually, without the matrix, Rodimus reverts back into Hot Rod. But he doesn’t lose his memories.

Poor Rodimus. It looks like how he feels they’re both Memory Loss like Sunset. And Rodimus use the Matrix and burst the memory and revert back to Hot Rod.
