Not a shock. It’s been hundreds if not thousands of years. What’s a good comparison to Equestria? Rome. Rome was once a great empire, it lasted a really long time, it did many good things, created many good things, did a lot of bad things for sure, but still no denying it was a formidable empire….where is that today? Oh yeah, it’s gone their is nothing left but ruins. It was replaced with multiple nations with their own governments, their own cultures, their own religions, ext. Equestria was never going to last.
To those who think Celestia, Luna or Discord would have stopped it…who’s to say they didn’t try? I’m sure Rome tried to stop it’s downfall and the invading nomadic forces, but they eventually fell, nothing lasts forever, the USA may fall one day as well, maybe divided, who knows.
The point is Friendship is like a monotheistic religion that unites various nations, it did for Europe.
The works of Greece and Rome are not forgotten we still study them, admire them, and learn from them. That’s the point! Had Sunny’s father never had ancient works, he and Sunny both would have been racists caught up in the propaganda.
That’s the point of Gen 5. Not bringing back a dead empire

Sorry for this, but really Gen 4 does have a point still, the works of hundreds of years of wonderful Equestrian history will help Gen 5 learn from the mistakes of the past and re learn friendship.

I’d say all the characters had potential, but Zipp and Pipp had very little to give to the events playing out.

~Sunny is enjoyable. Her relationship with her father is very sweet and explains why she’s ostracized from the rest of the town. It was clunky with her suddenly shifting attitudes to deliver lore or plot progression, such as when her house has just been destroyed and the first thing she does amid the rubble is tell everyone they should be friends. Other than that she was nice.

~Hitch was my favorite. He fit the role of “everyday guy” just trying to do his thing, when suddenly crazy stuff starts happening. He does his best to try and do his job, but he also shows he can think on his feet and he isn’t instantly accepting of what Sunny is preaching, but when he does he fights for it with every fiber of his being. I noted that when the group separated, Zipp was the only one to actually say anything to him, as if she’d personally miss him, and the two of them worked quite well together during the climax.

~Izzy I don’t have much to say about beyond the fact that she was very much “new pinkie pie”, but with a horn. She breaks the 4th wall, breaks reality, is seemingly whimsical and uncaring, comes from a family/setting that is depressing, but does everything out of her desire to make others happy.

~Pipp loves everything that being popular royalty means, namely the attention. I thought she’d be “lmao phone pony” but after her mother is arrested and her sister tells her what they are doing is more important, her phone aspect is dropped, but she sadly doesn’t do much of anything after that point and doesn’t have any real contributions, often being in the shadow of Izzy.

~Zipp seems like they really wanted to expand on her as the “rebellious royalty” who sneaks out to do daredevil stuff and dislikes the stuffy royalty aspect, thus why she styles her mane in a punk-rocker poof. However that never got explored beyond the brief moment in the canyon and her willingness to go with Hitch to try and stop the antagonist. Aside from her loredumping the hidden pegasus room and instantly following the protagonists, she doesn’t have much to her at the moment. She has no troubles or strife to conflict with and is perfectly content the entire film beyond her worry that Sunny and Izzy would blow her secret, which is resolved in 5 seconds.

So I’d say I enjoyed Hitch the most. Zipp might be fun, especially if she keeps up her dynamic with Hitch, but as it stands, she doesn’t have much to her.

Second: you weren’t paying too close attention to the movie if that’s your takeaway from her character. She’s quite pragmatic with her actions in the movie, which suits her as she’s good at thinking on her hooves. She didn’t want to abandon her sister, but the situation called for it in the quest.

The reason she joins up with Sunny et al is because of the “basement full of macguffins” you mentioned, where she reached the same conclusions as Sunny about how the pony types used to be buddy-buds; and when an earth pony and unicorn duo show up on her doorstep, it just confirms her conclusions, thus is why she’s willing to help them.

Watched the movie in full.

Zipp’s main issue is that she has no flaws. She’s “perfect” and has no hardships. Even Pip has more of a hardship with her e-fame and her big performance being ruined but Zipp isn’t bothered in the slightest and is instantly an ally for the protagonists without any question. Oh and she has access to an entire basement of lore dump and plot mcguffins.
