The decisionmakers didn’t like them and were confused by some of them changing races.

IT BEGINS

Sometimes I forget that Twilight becoming an Alicorn made the mane 6 pony tribe imbalanced.

They could at least add Glimglam for the unicorns. Rari looks forever alone like this…

I really liked those.

This scene was painful to me, because it reminded me of them, and their chemistry, and the fact that we will never see it again.
 
… you guys remember the potential redesign of the mane 6? I wonder why they didn’t go with that.

I actually like that this is the most we got and throughout the rest of the movie we just see them as a kind of myth. My favorite is how Twilight’s Cutie Mark is like a sacred symbol and she feels like a legend. In a way that’s this movie being its own thing while paying tributes to generation 4, making G4 more of a legacy than anything. I like that. :)

This scene to kickoff G5 was a very sweet surprise, seeing the stars of Friendship is Magic all back together for one last time, made complete with the voice actresses reprising their roles.  
I was under the impression and truly thought that the furthest direct reference of the mane six we’d see on-screen was going to be Sunny’s figurines.
 
It was lovely to include a final animated send-off to G4 tied with a fun way to pass the torch and transition to this generation.

TBH it was actually hard to tell upon first listen. It sounded like a caricature of them to me.
