People will compare G4 and G5 for a while. That’s obvious. The best we can do is be decent to each other about it.
The twilicorn part is something I rather stay away, cause that kind of drama is way worst.
Kids who were in the target demographic when G4 started have kids of their own now.
Brownies who were 16 or 18 when the fandom started have completed college and are years into their careers now.
There will be TONS of people for whom G5 will be their introduction to MLP, and for whom Twilight Sparkle will just be a character from the legends or a toy on the night stands of characters in G5.
Each generation gets their own ponies. And that’s perfectly fine.
If you keep breaking rule #4/6 the way you have been today, spamming complaints about Twilicorn all over the place or treating any image with a picture of Twilight in it as an opportunity to tangent to a discussion of what you feel went wrong in G4, that future might be a lot closer than you feared.

I mean statistically, the meager fandom G1-G3 had exploded at least ten thousand times over with the introduction of G4. Anything after would be compared to G4 for quite some time.
The point where its even possible for G5 to be judged on its own with no knowledge of G4 is many years down the line, no matter how good it is.
Will G5 be good? I hope so. But we can’t expect it to escape G4’s shadow anytime in the very near future. Its unrealistic.
…..
I fear in the VERY near future, if G5 is okay but under performs, Derpibooru’s most toxic hipster population will become “Oh you don’t like G5 for ‘xxxxx’ reasons? Then why are you even here?! Filter it and get out.”
Derpibooru does NOT have a good reputation these days thanks to that all-too-common mindset. I hope for the better, but I’m assuming the worst.

Yep
That’s in September, right?
1 month.
That movie can’t come any faster enough though. I’m still hyped.
That’s the spirit.
Neither am I, but there’s a difference between skepticism and “it’s already bad because [blank]!”
Well said and I get your point, I also just want lighthearted fun sometimes and not focus too much on complicated stuff. I think it’s just that we’re so used to deep and gritty media that a lot of people focus more on them. I honestly feel the same way with superhero movies sometimes. I don’t need a deep and clever movie all the time, sometimes I just want to sit back and enjoy things for the sake of fun. If we purely expect G5 to be those things, it’s gonna hurt our expectations of it. I’m sure G5 is going to be fun to watch.
Dreamworks (and actually yeah some Pixar films forgot to mention them). Yes, kids movies have all of that, I would rather a mix than anything and some lessons for kids to learn in movies with a moral focus.
My point was to not come into this movie and it’s series to come and expect what I mentioned earlier as the only thing to look forward to. I say that because a lot of people today, mostly adults, seem to want to be emotionally engaged in things over comedy, action, thrills, etc. Lately over the years most of these animated kids movies have been less comical and light-hearted and more for sorrow building. Meet the Robinsons is another that shows a good example of that. There was also a movie called Happily Never After that featured some big names for voice-acting way back at the time. It was a straight comical ride which I liked that still had it’s moral life lessons added in. So a sequel came out sometime after. Instead of continuing it’s comical tradition, the whole movie was too serious and emotional…
Anyways try not to look too deep into this, but I did want to point out my perspective of how I’ve seen this pattern lately. It’s not really a cemented thing cause in the end kids movies still and have always provided great entertainment for families, no matter how funny or serious they get. As Lauren said after she and Hasbro learned about the rise of the Brony fandom years ago to go in with an open-mind. The bronies embraced G4, all of it’s movies, and some even with Pony Life so why not this as well? Still though we can’t make anyone like the next big thing coming up. It’s their decision in the end to give it a try or avoid it entirely.

Kids movies can be both of those things really. It’s like we do have dark and gritty kids films (Coraline for example), emotional ones like most Pixar films, and we also have lighthearted simple films with really good morals to teach. FIM is actually that. It is mostly a slice of life show after all. It doesn’t have really scary or dark things in it, can even emotional at times, and it has good morals to teach people. You mentioning Dreamworks makes me think of mostly Kung Fu Panda. That series is probably the best example of lighthearted fun films with a good balance of seriousness and good morals to teach people.
I certainly don’t believe G5 is going to be Pixar level of emotional, and honestly I think that fits FIM really well. It’s just all fun and cute adventures while things can still be taken seriously.
In all fairness, it’s kinda hard to overshadow G4. But yeah, I like that mindset; with you willing to give it a try before you make a decision. And given how cute the characters look(Especially in the case of Sunny, Izzy, and maybe Pipp), I think I’ll enjoy it too.

Same, and that g5 is gonna be decent, at least it’ll never take g4’s popular spot, not by a long shot.
That’s a good point. No matter how the movie will turn out. It definitely shouldn’t be judged based on its target demographics (Funnily I learned that from being a Pokemon fan too). The movie shall be judged by itself and as itself with no excuses even if it could be bad. Thing is, I have a pretty average expectations toward it and I don’t believe it’s ever going to live up to G4 because G4 was just way too big. I think I’m gonna enjoy it regardless. The story might not be super great but I really like the characters and how beautiful the movie looks.
That’s why it makes no sense to use the fact that it’s a cartoon for little girls as a justification in case it won’t live up to fans expectations, especially in this fandom, where G4 has proven that when a show is made with high quality, even if made for little girls, it can also like to people beyond its target.
