Well, she did seem pretty to get her horn back before anything else, and probably couldn’t take the staff from him so easily anyway. And she at least seemed more willing to keep her end of the bargain.

And I suppose you think Shere Khan’s attack on Mowgli (in the 1967 film adaptation) came “completely out the left field” too?

I don’t disagree. Even in the comic, where he meta-refuses to have a backstory, it works. If he had an actual sane reason to be doing what he does, the audience might pity him, and we’d still be listening to whining about another reformed whatever.

Honestly, I think he would have been unbearable if he got more screentime. Just like Tempest got to go on one edgy rant (in song form) and otherwise kept getting interrupted. Let her keep her edge factor without wearing out the welcome.
Can you imagine Kingy uninterruptedly chewing the scenery for all of her scenes?

I don’t see what the problem is. The Storm King got at least as much focus as the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland (1951), Shere Khan from The Jungle Book (1967), and Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

The only difference is that Disney allowed murder to a child, mainly Marcy. Except she’s not dead, but living a fate worst than death.
