But really, she should’ve expected someone to double cross her.
And even if she wanted to have her fingers crossed, she couldn’t because she has no fingers.
Well, she did seem pretty to get her horn back before anything else, and probably couldn’t take the staff from him so easily anyway. And she at least seemed more willing to keep her end of the bargain.
It was better explained in the original book. He didn’t trust Mowgli and saw him as a threat. That aside, did you see his betrayal coming? If anything, Tempest should’ve betrayed the Storm King instead of what we got.
Edited
And I suppose you think Shere Khan’s attack on Mowgli (in the 1967 film adaptation) came “completely out the left field” too?
That was only at the end and came completely out of left field.
Just because a villain has a sympathetic backstory doesn’t always mean they’ll reform.
I don’t disagree. Even in the comic, where he meta-refuses to have a backstory, it works. If he had an actual sane reason to be doing what he does, the audience might pity him, and we’d still be listening to whining about another reformed whatever.
I thought his general goofiness was a great setup for when he got legit menacing once he had the staff, it really helped sell that he was completely nuts.
Honestly, I think he would have been unbearable if he got more screentime. Just like Tempest got to go on one edgy rant (in song form) and otherwise kept getting interrupted. Let her keep her edge factor without wearing out the welcome.
That minion proved more of a threat than he was.
Storm King sent a minion who took out three of four Alicorn princesses in less than a minute, I’d say he definitively checked off the box for Legitimate Threat.
Edited
Sadly. But even then, those guys showed they were legitimate threats.

I have a list.
How so?
Good point.
Not hard to do, honestly.
Oh, most definitely.
Indeed. And one of them actually decided to change for the better.
