“Cunabula” revealed a bit of everything; The history of the various civilizations in Equuis is several millennia old, but it is clear that there is a prehistoric period where the first creatures learned how to use magic. This led to “the first magical civilizations” that disappeared with time, and one of these is Ponyland where the ponies originally lived before windigos appeared. The magical elevation of the ponies indicates that they were the first to learn magic and to be influenced by magic in the development of civilization. Enormous amounts of magical knowledge were created - and lost.
 
If Cunabula survives into the “modern age” - the G4 era - this is probably the last of the first magical civilizations. For Cunabula in Latin translates to “The earliest abode; original dwelling place; originals”. And we know that the ponies do not come from Cunabula as the G1 background formed the historical heritage of Equestria. Another possible “first magical civilization” may be Grogar’s Tambleon - which had disappeared without a trace. This means that the cunabulans will be in possession of magical lore which may be more powerful than the ponies’ own.
