yup! back before g4 they were just called butt marks or symbols. You can still see this on My Little Wiki

huh, I never knew that, that’s fascinating - I just assumed the butt marks were always called cutie marks
That’s actually where the term cutie mark came from. It was the heart on the hoof which had the magnet on it in G3 to make other playset stuff work. That was what the original cutie mark was. The meaning got jumbled by other collectors and eventually hasbro.
I think the G3 and maybe the G4 toys had something like that as well, so that’s a nice reference if that’s the case
