Duck - "someone befriended them, saved them, coaxed them out of their shell, and showed them that sex is nothing to be afraid of. I’m kind of envious of that rape victim"

according to this the ancient greeks pronounced lyre as ‘lew-ra’ with ‘lew’ as in ‘lewd’, and ‘ra’ as in she-ra, princess of power. if my IPA isn’t absolutely awful, apparently the most ancient also specified that the ‘lew’ syllable should be rising pitch, like asking a question.

then, constantine fagged everything up, and they started pronouncing it ‘lee-ra’ as in ‘lee’ from ‘leeway’. I don’t know if modern greek changed that, so calling her ‘lee-ra’ is probably fine. ‘lew-ra’ was the original though, so ‘loira’ is probably equally valid as ‘leera.’
