G1 Decepticons can fly. I guess Sombra and Ponks are flying because of magic.

I remember that, it seems that the transformers in the G1 are able to manipulate gravitational forces to be able to fly, but not so fast compared to aircrafts. They go very slowly when they “glide” through the air, without any propulsion. Since much of Cybertron has very deep gorges and “openings” that stretched hundreds of kilometers down, it would be logical that the transformers have a gravitational engine of limited capacity. Possibly Megatron was responsible for Sombra and Pinkie being able to fly, because it may be possible to “link” other objects to them. As with the pegasi and heavy objects they take up to the clouds. This from G1 has not been seen in subsequent generations, possibly because there was never a logical explanation back then in the 1980s.

Also it appears Pinkie too is capable of flight.

Well, unicorns would prefer flying with magic and levitating themselves into the air. For example, see this below, pictured.  
 
Starlight Glimmer learns how to fly and using her magic, like in The Cutie Remark. It has been said that unicorns can fly with magic, but I don’t ever remember them having to fly without magic.

Lower gravity?

So how come the Decepticons can fly without transforming? IT’s a question that I’ve asked myself since Transformers G1.

But he was supposed transform into his shadow form to fly.
