I actually noticed that when I was drawing the gun. That’s also why I opted to keep all of that facing the other side so I didn’t have to see it’s ugly mug you could pretend that the ejection port is further down on the barrel.
I also much prefer Fallout 4’s version but I already drew the gun by the time I thought about it.

You could argue that a shotgun doesn’t need the barrel length, but then it’s called a combat shotgun. And it’s not like there was a lack of space to set the mag back further.
Like, this is a universe where gun practicality has progressed. The M16 does exist. It’s a goofy one, to be sure.
